Police to send additional troops for Baguio activities

THE Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCor) is set to send additional forces to help in the beefing up security for the various activities in Baguio City and other parts of the region.

Procor Director Rolando Nana explained the measure will ensure the presence of additional troops which will provide security for tourists and residents of Baguio City and the Cordillera coinciding with its various activities including the May 2019 midterm elections.

“We have met with Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Director Eliseo Tanding and saw their security plan and they will apply for the upcoming big events in the city like the Panagbenga. We have seen their preparation and we will be sending additional forces coming from the Regional Mobil Force Battalion and the regional command which will help in their security plans for the residents and the tourists coming up to the city,” Nana said.

Aside from the Panagbenga, the Regional Command is studying the possible deployment of troops for the staging of this year’s Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) in the province of Apayao.

On the present heightened alert status in the region following the bombing incident in Jolo, Sulu the regional director explained that this involves the implementation of the right security measures in the maintenance of peace and order in the region.

“Here in the Cordillera region, it is generally peaceful but it does not mean that we should be complacent because whatever happened in other places may also happen here in our region which is why all stake holders including the AFP and PNP should be more vigilant in their surroundings,” the official said.

Nana added “Aside from preparing for the big events in Baguio City and the region, we have also met with the commanding officer of the 503rd Brigade of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Colonel Henry Duyawen in which we discussed the implementing procedures of our security measures not only on a daily basis but for the incoming election as well.”
