THE Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Memphis Grizzlies by one shot.

Wolves Center Karl Anthony Towns knocks down a jumper in the left baseline to win the game against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Target Center.

After Wolves forward Andrew Wiggins missed a jumper near the free throw line with three seconds left in overtime, Towns got the rebound against two Grizzlies and knocked a fade-away jumper to get the final score of 99-97.

Towns posted 16 points and 10 rebounds in this game, along with their reserve guard Jerryd Bayless adding 19 points and his career-high 12 assists into the win.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies relied on guard Mike Conley’s 26 points and center Marc Gasol’s 19 points into the mix. The Grizzlies are now on a slump, losing 10 out of their last 11 games.

In the first quarter, the Wolves were in control of the game with a 24-16 lead going to the second quarter. Yet the Grizzlies created a 26-9 run to tie the game 44 apiece at halftime.

The third quarter was tight with the score going back and forth against the two teams. In the fourth quarter, neither of the two teams wanted to lose the game. Bayless tried to knock a 20-foot jumper to win the game yet it bounced off the rim and this resulted into an overtime game.

The game was tough in overtime with both teams only scoring up to 6 points. Players scuffled and dove for the ball and the score was tied at 97. Then Towns knocked down a surprising fade-away to take care of business.

After the game, Towns commented that they were just “doing their business, to close out games, and to procure a win.” The Wolves are currently 25-26 in the Western Conference and the Grizzlies drop to a 20-32 record. (Jayvee Gulfan, USC intern)
