PALARONG Pambansa 2018 champion Jualiana Marien Villanueva swept all six gold medals of her six events as Davao City Durians dominated the Davraa Meet 2019 swimming competition at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

Davao City Durians harvested a total of 47 golds, 34 silvers, and 13 bronzes to claim the overall championship while Tagum City hauled eight silvers, 21 silvers and 24 bronzes for the runner-up honors.

Panabo, with a 3-3-6 medal count, placed third while 2-1-5 Compostela Valley came fourth. The 0-1-2 Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), 0-0-9 Davao Oriental and 0-0-1 Digos City trailed behind.

The 14-year-old Precious International School of Davao (PISD) student Villanueva ruled the secondary girls 200-meter (m) freestyle, 800m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly events. She also anchored the secondary girls 4X100m medley relay team with Lora Micah Amoguis, Erika Lois Suelan and Alissa Lazarraga as well as the 400m freestyle relay team with Maiki Gonzaga, Erika Lois Suelan and Joanna Kayla Gonzales.

“I feel happy and ecstatic about my performance but I still have to focus on my training for Palaro,” she said, adding that the rare feat boosts her morale going to the Palarong Pambansa 2019 set in Davao City on April 27 to May 4 although she would be up against stronger swimmers from other regions.

Meanwhile, Liaa Margarette Amoguis and Caitleen Danielle San Felix each brought home six golds and one silver.

Amoguis, 11, a student of Abba's Orchard School, copped the elementary girls 100m butterfly, 400m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 200 individual medley (IM) golds. She and San Felix also formed part of Davao City's 4X50 medley relay and 4X100 freestyle relay teams with Rissa Sahagun and Ma. Arabella Del Rio that also won golds.

“It could have been nice if it was a perfect seven but I'm still happy of what I achieved. After all, this is my last year in Davraa,” she added. She earned a silver in 100m breaststroke.

San Felix, meanwhile, also topped the 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle.
