THE winning villages in the different categories of the Oro Kalimpyo Awards 2018 were named Wednesday, January 30, in a ceremony held at the activity center of Centrio Ayala Mall, Cagayan de Oro City.

Barangays 22, Canitoan, and Bayanga won the first place awards in the competition's Urban, Sub-Urban and Hinterland categories, respectively.

Each of the first place barangays received markers and cash prize worth P150,000, apart from Barangay Canitoan, which received P200,000.

It’s the second time that the barangays 22 and Canitoan won the first place awards.

Coming in second place under the Sub-Urban category was Barangay Gusa; third place - Barangay Tablon; fourth place - Barangay Bugo; and fifth place - Barangay Bayabas.

In the Urban category, the second place was awarded to Barangay 23; third place to Barangay 24; fourth place to Barangay 17; and fifth place to Barangay 11.

Barangay Baikingon, meanwhile, won second place under the Hinterland category; Barangay Mambuaya in the third place; and Barangay Taglimao got fourth place.

“Another chapter but the story continues. We're happy with the good results, well-participated, and 76 out of 80 or ratio of percentage of 95. Gwapo nga turn out,” City Mayor Oscar Moreno said.

“Ang kaimportante ani aron mo increase ang awareness sa atong mga katawhan kun unsa kaimportante ang solid waste management. Ang ikaduha, aron pagtutok niani kung naka-comply ba ang mga barangay sa maong balaod: Republic Act 9003 (The most important is to increase awareness of the relevance of solid waste management. Second, to focus on barangays that comply with the ordinance),” City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) chief Armen Cuenca, for his part, said.

He added that the aforementioned barangays in each of the three categories were awarded due to their functional Materials Recovery Facility, composting and participation of the residents of the barangays.

Joshua Taboclaon, Canitoan village chief, said that the cash prize they received is just an added motivation for the barangay as what's important is the cleanliness of their place.

“Nasalagmaan ra man kini. Ang importante naningkamot, nagtinabanga ang katawhan ug ang barangay council, uban sa SK sa atong barangay,” Taboclaon said.

“Dili man ingon kay premyo ang atong gaapason. Kibali ang atong gaapason ang kahusay ug ang kalinaw ug ang kalimpyo sa atong barangay,” he added.

The Oro Kalimpyo Awards started with the participating barangays submitting their profile and how they complied with the solid waste management program of the city government.

After validation and evaluation, 15 barangays were named as finalists.

The city mayor also mentioned that this year's Oro Kalimpyo Awards will be bigger and better.

“The idea is we make these things part of the objectives of the barangays. At the end of the day, whatever the barangays do, also reflect to the city. The idea is cleanliness is an everyday affair,” Moreno said.
