Dharma center in Cebu celebrates Chinese, Tibetan New Year

THE Jangchub Choeling Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Center in Cebu has set a series of activities in celebration of the Chinese and Losar New Year on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

A three-day Vajrakilaya Grand Purification Puja will kick off the activities on Friday, Feb. 1. It will end on Sunday, Feb. 3.

The practice of Vajrakilaya is famous in the Tibetan Buddhists’ world as the most powerful for removing obstacles, destroying the forces hostile to compassion and purifying the spiritual pollution.

Puja (a prayer ritual) is traditionally performed in the final days of the year to cleanse all negativities and undesirable circumstances, pacify all illness, demonic influence, defilements and obstacles in order to start the new year fresh.

The dharma center is located in Seaview Heights Subdivision, Barangay Lawaan, Talisay City.

On Monday, Feb. 4, the center will observe the Amitayus and Lud ritual and blessing.

According to Buddhist’s belief, sincere devotion to Amitayus, the Buddha of infinite/boundless life, helps eliminate all the obstacles to long life such as sickness, curse, emotional and physical pain. It would allow the practitioner to advance in his spiritual practice and accumulate more merit.

On the day of the Chinese and Losar Tibetan New Year, Venerable Sonam Jantsho Rinpoche and Venerable Samten Rinpoche will bless the participants in the center’s activities.

The 21 Dzambala Puja will be observed on Wednesday, Feb. 6. The activity is for business, prosperity and financial success.

For those who are interested to join the activities, contact Lopen Tenzin Namgyal at 491-4881.
