Masbad: Experiencing Android, Facebook integrations and a BTS video

First Android

So, finally, I “switched” to Android. Quotes necessary because I’m not totally leaving the Apple ecosystem. It’s just that I’m wading into Android waters. I recently got my Huawei Mate 10 Pro phone and it’s been great so far. It’s just almost a week of using it and I’m feeling fairly at home already. Granted that there are a few things that feels a bit awkward and “off” for me but, otherwise, it’s all good.

Initial impression is its plethora of customization options. There are tons! Launchers, themes, icon packs, wallpapers. There so many that it gets confusing. Double edged sword. Once you know what you want though, it’s fairly easy to get things done. At least for me, I wanted to use another launcher because the default Huawei one is just too default-y.

I experimented with Nova Launcher, Rootless Pixel Launcher and the Evie Launcher. I’m currently using Evie. I’m liking things as they are right now. Software wise, everything is running in smoothly. I love the battery capacity of the phone even more! I can go for an entire day and a half of regular use on this thing. A day and a half before I even need to plug it in. And the better part? Fast charging too!

I’ll be experimenting more on this.

Integrating WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram

I first read this in a New York Times report. To be honest, I don’t know exactly how I feel about this. Sure, Facebook owns all of those services and that it can do what it pleases to do. And this comes in a time after all of the scandals Facebook went through last year.

It seems to me that this is Zuckerberg’s response to the general public’s loud cry for data security. But is this even security in the end? Once all three are integrated, it could mean that you can message a contact who’s on WhatsApp using Facebook Messenger. Zuckerberg did say that there should be end-to-end encryption for all three services. Shouldn’t that be in there already at this time or even before this time?

Time will only tell how things will go once this project is finished by the end of this year or early next year. In the meantime, back to the usual grind.

This makes me smile.
