WHETHER it’s the 10-year challenge or a 20-year challenge, the city of Cebu loves its mangoes through and through. Back in the day, dried mangoes were the craze. After some years as a souvenir staple, the product went through numerous innovations, including being covered with rich dark chocolate.

At present, Cebu is now enamored with the idea of having mango floats in a cup. Businesses are picking up, and locals are gladly eating up. Some of these recipes vary in one way or another but are more or less mango float-inspired concoctions. Here are some of the places in Cebu where you can score on some of these sweet hits.

Considered by many as the brand that started it all, Maxi Mango just recently set up shop in Cebu. The brand was born in Davao but saw mainstream success in Metro Manila. The stall at SM Seaside serves not only the mango floats in a cup but mango shakes and juices as well. The brand is the brainchild of former “Pinoy Big Brother” season one housemate Miki Arceo-Velasquez.

Mango Loco

A relatively small player, Mango Loco is a brand birthed in a mom-and-pop store, Total Save Store, in Banawa, Cebu City. With its tasty recipe and the power of social media, the brand is now popular among Cebuanos.

Eat and Treats Cafe

A cafe located at the ground floor of Indiana Condotel on Jakosalem St., Cebu City, Eat and Treats Cafe has its own version called the Mango Martini. It is served in a large glass, is made with homemade ice cream and uses the sweet mangoes from Guadalupe, Cebu. According to proprietor Adrian Diongzon, the treat is dedicated to “Sex and the City” character Carrie Bradshaw.
