INTEGRATING new technology in the form of an application to bridge parents with a school’s faculty is a challenge because of a generation gap, a school official said.
But with constant communication through seminars and talks, Jonathan Salvane, school director of GT Northeast Academy, said they’re helping both the students and the parents keep up with the times.
“With the trend now in education, most likely by 2025, every school will be digitalized. Our students must be well accustomed to technology so they can perform well in the modern workplace,” Salvane said.
The academy has been using an application called “Classemo” to notify parents of their children’s whereabouts within the school’s premises and of other academic-related announcements.
“One of our challenges for Classemo is not all parents use the app because they use their phones mostly for just text, calls or Facebook,” he said.
If they use the social networking platform, Facebook, Salvane said there won’t be an intermediary to filter the conversations between parents and faculty.
“When we use Facebook, the parents and the teachers will be directly connected. Their conversations won’t be documented. Unlike in Classemo where we can contact the admin for us to view their conversations,” he said.
Classemo, created by Applift Technologies Inc., streamlines academic processes that make it convenient for school administrators, teachers and parents, Jonathan said. “Every year, when there’s a huge growth in the students’ population, we try to invite all the parents for a seminar as an introduction on how they can use the app.”
