Village official killed, nephew hurt

A VILLAGE official was killed while his nephew was wounded in an attack following a mauling incident at a community disco in Zamboanga del Sur province, the police said Friday, February 01.

Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, said the incident happened at 12:40 a.m. Thursday in Canoayan village, Bayog town.

Licup identified the fatality as Canoayan village councilor Manuel Bahunswa, 63, while his nephew Jason, 25, a farmer, was hospitalized for treatment.

He said the victims were allegedly hacked and stabbed by the Dalangon brothers, who were later identified as Gelmar, 32, a militiaman of Guigang village, Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte; Boyet, 34, a farmer; and Orlando, 22.

Licup said investigation showed that prior to the incident, an unidentified person mauled Orlando while he was at the community disco.

Unconscious, Orlando was brought to his residence. However, he returned to the disco and punched another person in retaliation after he awakened.

The Bahunswa and his nephew chased Orlando, who fled after mauling the disco goer.

Orlando, aided by his two brothers, hacked and stabbed the village official and his nephew upon reaching at an unlighted bridge.

Licup said the village official sustained multiple injuries that caused his untimely death while his nephew, Jason, was wounded in the head and was rushed to the Ipil Emergency Hospital.

He said the suspects fled to the village of Guigang, Siayan, Zamboanga Del Norte and are object of a police follow-up operation. (SunStar Philippines)
