CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – “My advocacy is with the media, which gave me the opportunity to roam around the country and serve the people.”

Thus said Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar on Friday when he organized a meet and greet session with the Pampanga media practitioners at Capampangan Island Grill and Restaurant here.

Andanar disclosed that the meeting aimed to forge a relationship between media and government by getting to know them.

"As a PCOO secretary, I want to reach out with the media practitioners, meet them and hear from them how they work in their fields where they find the challenges and issues, and where they solve them by informing the public. I am doing this because I am a media man and I would die a media man, too. After this government, I will go back to private media,” Andanar said.

Andanar is a former television news personality and news anchor for TV5.

Andanar noted that he already met some media practitioners from Dipolog City, Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte, Cebu, Nueva Ecija, and Cavite to hear their concerns.

Copies of a manual called ‘Handbook on Personal Security Measures for Media Practitioners’, which was published by the Presidential Task Force on Media Security, were distributed by Andanar during the meeting.

“In the hands of the Pampanga media right now is the handbook that can keep everyone, particularly media, safe. This is the answer to the dangerous road and threats media practitioners have to face every day in their news beats,” Andanar said.

Andanar then met up with the Bulacan press on Saturday.
