SAN SIMON -- Local authorities over the weekend called on motorist not to never drive if under the influence of liquor.
The town police issued the statement following vehicular accidents in this municipality involving drunk drivers.
Chief Inspector Louie Gonzaga, this town’s chief of police, said that at least seven deaths due to vehicular accidents were reported here since December 2018.
According to Gonzaga, almost half of the figure involves drunk drivers.
The latest accident involved two individuals, who were onboard a motorcycle, under the influence of alcohol hit a concrete pavement along Barangay San Miguel here.
Due to the impact, the driver died on the spot while his companion was able to jump off the motorcycle before it finally hit the concrete pavement, Gonzaga said.
“Let us value our lives, and the lives of the people around us, and also consider the feelings of our loved ones, and those that would be involved in the accidents that we may cause if we continue to these dangerous habit of drunk driving,” he said.
Gonzaga said that the local police, in partnership with the local government here, is eyeing a municipality-wide caravan to intensify information dissemination on the consequences of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
“We are sitting it out with the local government and barangays so we can launch a caravan that will help us intensify our goal of educating motoring public regarding safe driving,” he said.
