FOR their children to look good, moms do not have to spend so much. There are ways on how we can save and yet we get to buy the best brands or those with high quality.

As moms, our children’s fashion pieces are not really the top priority. Well, there are other more important things that we need to spend on. There are bills to pay and, of course, the food that we need to put on the table. Therefore, our budget for clothes and shoes could be limited.

Here are some practical tips that I have been personally adopting, and you may want to consider them, too:

1. Check your closet. At times, when we buy a dress for our daughter, for example, we only realize that she has an almost similar piece when we go through her closet. To avoid this, check the entire closet first before going out for shopping.

2. Make a list and set a budget. It is best to make a list of what we need to buy for our children. Through this way, we already know which department or shop we should visit the moment we arrive in the mall. Also, when we have a list, we can already set a budget for what we need to buy.

3. Buy during mall-wide sale. Well, I know that a lot of us are fans of sale, that whenever we would hear this four-letter word, we immediately become excited. When it’s a mall-wide sale, it means that every shop, not just the department store, have a number of products at discounted rates. In short, our choices seem unlimited!

4. Visit the thrift shop. In Davao, I have always been a fan of SM City’s Surplus store in Ecoland. It is where I can buy quality goods at affordable prices. My two boys, who are really choosy when it comes to what they wear, are happy to find what they want there.

5. Be strict with quality. Even when we are on a tight budget, it does not mean that we will sacrifice quality. Remember: if the quality is low, the item will not last long. Thus, we will just be wasting our hard-earned money.

6. Try checking the online stores of the brands. No, I am not talking about the online sellers here. What I mean is really the online store of a particular brand. Prices are posted so you can compare if the ones in the mall are cheaper or more expensive. For example, my eldest son discovered that a shoe brand’s online store offers higher discounts compared to their physical shops inside the malls. So, we order from there and have it shipped here. Yes, they offer COD (cash on delivery), too.

We, wise moms, surely know how to make every penny count. It is our desire to give our children the best, but, it does not mean that it must always come with a high price tag.
