1 dead in anti-drug operations

A DRUG personality was killed, while his companion escaped and another was arrested in two separate anti-drug operations in Zamboanga City.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the slain drug personality was only identified as a certain Sawe.

Galvez said Sawe's companion, Salimar Sali alias Mimok, managed to escape during the drug bust conducted around 4 p.m. Sunday, February 3, in Sitio Mulu-Muluan, Barangay Mercedes, Zamboanga City.

Sali ran and traded shots with lawmen after sensing they were transacting with an undercover policeman. He fled toward the mangrove area of Sitio Mulu-Muluan going to Bilang-Bilang Island.

Police recovered from the site eight sachets of "shabu" (methamphetamine hydrochloride) with an estimated street value of P240,000, one MK2 fragmentation grenade, a caliber .45 pistol with ammunition, and one spare magazine loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition.

In another drug bust conducted around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, February 3, on Fermin Drive in the village of Camino Nuevo, arrested was Jason Belnag, 47.

Seized from Belnag were P200 marked money consisting of two P100 bills, two heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu worth P400, and two folded aluminum foil. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
