Child births down, death and marriage increase

THE Benguet Provincial Statistical Office recorded 16,766 child birth registrations, 4,448 marriage and 4,427 death for Baguio City and Benguet in 2018.

In a Kapihan forum on Friday, Imelda Buyuccan, Chief Statistical Specialist PSA-Benguet said child births however had decreased compared to the 16,766 registered births in 2017 while registered marriages are up with 4,448 and registered deaths with 4,427.

Among the city and municipalities, Benguet’s capital town of La Trinidad and the City of Baguio had the highest number of registered births with 4,043 and 10,040 respectively.

For marriages, certificate of registration of authority to solemnize marriage (CRASM) were issued by 226 males and 14 females.

The month of September, January and August were declared the peak of number of deaths registered per month for 2017 and 2018.

Association of Baguio and Benguet Civil Registration President Joan Solano-Bacoling disclosed Benguet and Baguio City had 99 percent awareness of civil registration.

“99 percent are aware of civil registration, people file for corrections in the office, they are aware of the birth certificate in which they are to register in civil registry office upon enrollment even if they were late for a little while it has always been registered,” she said.

She added data cleansing is also conducted by municipal registrars when one person is double registered.

“We always honor the first registration and then modically do the corrections and that of the first registration, ask the parties to undergo cancellation of the multiple registration,” says Bacoling.

Civil registration was established in the country on February 27, 1932 through Act 3753 known as an act to establish a civil register.
