A PAWIKAN or sea turtle nest with about 30 eggs discovered on the coastline of Aboitiz Power subsidiary Therma South, Inc. (TSI) last December 14, 2018 could hatch any day in February.
A temporary enclosure was built around the nest to protect the eggs from predators. As soon as they emerge, TSI will release the hatchlings and assist them on their way to the sea.
Margelaine Arguillas, chief of the Protected Areas Management and Biodiversity Conservation Section of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Region XI (DENR XI), with her team, checked the nest on February 1, 2019.
TSI has been working closely with the DENR as well as with the Aboitiz Cleanergy Park, which has its own pawikan conservatory, on the protection of these eggs to ensure they survive.
The discovery of the sea turtle nest inside the plant compound is a testament to AboitizPower's mission of providing reliable and reasonably priced power with the least adverse effects on the environment and its host communities. (PR)
