SM CITY Clark’s celebration of the Chinese New Year kicked off with a celebration of Chinese visual arts as the mall hosted the Chan Lim art exhibit on February 2.
Media practitioners, who attended the event, also took an afternoon off from beating their regular deadlines by participating in the Chinese watercolor painting lessons provided by the Chan Lim family and students.
The event was part of the exhibit dubbed "An Exhibit of Chinese and Western Paintings" by the Chan Lim family of artists and students. The exhibit was participated in by 40 artists and some students and enthusiasts who joined the free Chinese painting workshop on opening day.
The Chan Lim family is one of the few remaining notable Chinese brush painting artists in the country today. Leading them is their patriarch, Chan Lim, and children Alex, Felix, Rolex and Jolex.
The mediamen were given basic instruction on the rudiments of Chinese watercolor art as well as basic techniques in going about Chinese impressionism. They were also given painting materials as well as Chinese brushes to take with them and practice at home. Leading the demo was none other than Alex Chan Lim.
Meanwhile, dozens of exquisite artworks done on Chinese rice-paper scrolls are on display at the SM City Clark Main Atrium. The paintings were done by the Chan Lim family as well as some their students.
The family of artists has already conducted painting exhibits and a number of seminars, art workshops and on-the-spot painting demonstrations for at least four decades now.
