Some passengers dead as 2 buses collide

NABUNTURAN, COMPOSTELA VALLEY - Investigation by the Nabunturan Municipal Station is still ongoing on the road accident involving two buses at Kilometer 91 Monday afternoon, February 4.

An initial report from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Compostela Valley revealed that at around 2 p.m., emergency responders were still conducting a rescue operation in the area.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Compostela Valley, several persons died on the spot when a Bachelor Bus and a Davao Metro Shuttle collided.

In a video clip posted on Facebook by Divine Grace Muñoz Ampo, victims of the collision were being rescued and taken from the buses.

The video showed some bodies on the street and the responders could be seen carrying the victims to the ambulance for transport to the nearest hospital.

As of presstime, the number of fatalities and the injured were still undetermined. An unconfirmed report placed the death toll at five persons while 15 were reportedly injured.

Initial investigation also revealed that the two buses collided due to the heavy rains that caused the road to be slippery.

The Bachelor Bus was going towards Davao City while the Metro Shuttle was on its way to New Bataan in Compostela Valley.

The Davao Metro Shuttle, in a statement, said: "We are saddened with the accident that happened just now in Nabunturan and our respond team is currently on the site to facilitate all the necessary actions. Investigation is ongoing. We also welcome any actual or personal experience of the event so we can add it up to our investigation. If you have, please message us. Your prayers will be very much appreciated. Thank you."

SuperBalita tried to get the side of the Bachelor Bus but has yet to issue a comment as investigation by the police is still ongoing.

However, both have expressed willingness to shoulder the hospital expenses of the victims.
