7 Cebu City youth councils to get P1M assistance each

THE Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in seven barangays in Cebu City will get P1 million financial assistance each from the City Government to fund projects they want to implement in their areas.

The council has approved P7 million worth of financial assistance for the SK of Barangays Budlaan, Guadalupe, Busay, Kasambagan, Sawang Calero, T. Padilla, and Talamban.

City ex-officio Councilor Jessica Resch, who is also the SK Federation president, sponsored seven separate resolutions for the charging of the financial assistance for the SKs of the seven barangays.

Resch, during the council deliberation on the approval of her resolutions, said the seven barangays are the first to submit their project proposals, that is why they were the first to get the financial assistance.

“But others will also get their share if they will comply with all the requirements,” she said.

The aid is Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s election promise to the youth leaders.

Last May, Osmeña promised to the SK chairpersons that the City will fund their projects worth at least P1 million in exchange for their support in electing a federation president who will support his administration.

When she ran for SK Federation president, Resch was supported by the mayor’s political group, the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan.

In his project proposal, Budlaan SK chairman Lester Archival said their P1 million financial assistance will be used to fund the construction of the youth activity and leisure office, the holding of a sports tournament and installation of street signs.

Barangay Guadalupe SK chairman Jan Jay Casañal has proposed the construction of multimedia activity center, while Busay SK chairman Joy Lorraine Plantar has proposed to construct a dance hall studio, library and SK Center.

In Barangay Kasambagan, SK chairman Jayboy Alcaraz has proposed to enhance their multipurpose studio and study center, while Sawang Calero chairman Kenny Glenn Silud has proposed the rehabilitation of the barangay’s youth center and purchase of equipment.

Barangay T. Padilla SK chairperson Joseph Gepte has proposed to purchase firefighting and rescue equipment, materials for their youth center, health care apparatus and kits, sports materials and bulletin board, while Talamban SK chairman Christine Claire Bontuyan has proposed to construct a study center and purchase a study bus.
