THE Davao City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) residential facilities for abused and abandoned women and children will have new and upgraded facilities and building this year.

CSSDO head Malou Bermudo in an interview on Monday, February 5, said that the P50-million allocated budget from Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is part of the mandate of the local government unit (LGU) to operate residential facilities such as Bahay Pag-Asa (BPA) or the Children's Village, Balay Dangupan for the abused children, Child-minding Center, Lingap Center for mentally-challenged children, among others.

"Isa sa atong gi-upgrade nga residential facility is ang Bahay Pag-Asa for CICL (children in conflict with the law) sa Bago Oshiro. Ang building na gi-expand naay upat ka classrooms which ang Department of Education (DepEd) ang nag-provide og teachers (One of the upgraded residential facilities is the Bahay Pag-Asa for CICL in Bago Oshiro. Its expanded building will have four classrooms with teachers from DepEd)," Bermudo said.

She added that there will also be new libraries, clinic, dormitories that would cater CICLs like normal students so that once they will be released to the mainstream community, those children will have a continuous learning process.

Bermudo further said that other residential facilities like the Home for the Aged will now have a garden for a more standard environment. Balay Dangupan will also have two more classrooms.

"While we are operating, the LGU will maintain but we have to follow the standard set by the national (government) which was issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)," she said.

"Itong mga residential facilities, dapat ma-accredit sa DSWD. We envision that all our residential facilities will be accredited and licensed by the DSWD," she said, adding that some just need renewal for accreditation.
