Businessman warns public of ‘fake’ FB accounts

A KAPAMPANGAN businessman on Tuesday, February 05, warned the public of fraudulent Facebook accounts under his name that are used to victimize unwary individuals.

Redeemer Torres, who owns several cellphone stores in the province, said that several Facebook accounts bearing his name and pictures are trying to prey on people by allegedly selling cellphones and then go missing once payments are received.

Torres said that they have already monitored at least five bogus accounts with names “Redeemer Hipolito Torres,” “Red Torres,” “Redhee Torres (Marydhee),” “Redeemer Torres (Dee Torres),” and “Redhee Torres (Mitch)” using the said modus.

“They were created by a hacker, who has used my previously hacked Facebook account, committed identity theft, posed as one Redeemer Torres, stole my profile pictures and family pictures and used them to make a bogus Facebook account under my name, even putting a short bio by illegally using my personal details,” Torres added.

He said that after his Facebook account was hacked in 2011, he longer created another one but was shocked upon knowing that several accounts surfaced on the said social media platform.

“The said accounts sold various items online asking unsuspecting buyers to either deposit payments to an alleged Unionbank account or settle through G-cash or other online payment forms but items will not be sent to the buyers,” he said.

Torres said that the hacker has already greatly besmirched his reputation as a businessman, and has put his family’s security in peril while also placing their lives in danger.

He said that he had already reported the incident to the Crimimal Investigation and Detection Group in 2011, 2017 and again this year but authorities are yet to track down the identity of the hacker.

“I have done several measures to put the hacker behind bars and make him answerable to the full extent of the law. Meantime, we ask the public to exercise extreme caution in dealing with this hacker and relay information about him to us or authorities,” he said.
