Thousands apply for Oro’s scholarship program

THOUSANDS of senior high school students wanting to proceed to college have expressed interest to apply for the scholarship program of the City Government of Cagayan de Oro.

Last Tuesday, February 5, at least 4,000 senior high school students joined the Scholarship Applicant Assembly held at the City Hall Quadrangle, hoping to qualify and become one of the scholars of the city.

Due to the large number of applicants, the City Scholarships Office of Cagayan de Oro decided to set two batches, one in the morning and the second in the afternoon.

According to the City Scholarships Office, the minimum qualifications for the full scholarship application includes: must be an incoming first year college SY 2019-2020; a graduate of private or public Senior High Schools in Cagayan de Oro City; Filipino citizen; a resident in one of the barangays in Cagayan de Oro City; and must possess a minimum of 85 percent general weighted average (for performance-based applicants) and 75 percent (for income-based applicants) from Senior High School first semester final grade.

For this year's scholarship budget, City Mayor Oscar Moreno allotted P140 million to cater to more scholars.

The Scholarships Office also reminded the applicants of the official opening of the online application on February 7. Online application can also be checked through its website:cityscholar.cagayandeoro.gov.ph:8080.

Present during the event were Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy, Councilors Suzzette Magtajas Daba, Ian Mark Nacaya, Reuben Daba, Maria Lourdes Gaane, George Goking, Teodulfo Lao, Enrico Salcedo, Jay Roa Pascual, Zaldy Ocon, Alam Lim, and John Michael Seno.
