MisOr LGUs urged to display disaster hotline number

A DISASTER management officer in Misamis Oriental is urging local disaster offices in each town to put up signage bearing their emergency hotline in strategic areas so responders can quickly respond to crisis situations.

Floy Francisco Sr., capitol's local disaster and management officer, said the province has no capacity yet to replicate Davao's 911 emergency hotline because of budgetary constraints.

“Dili pa nato ma-compare ang probinsya sa 911 sa Davao tungod sa gikinahanglanong pondo,” Francisco said.

However, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has been conducting trainings to equip local responders with knowledge and skills.

Francisco said one of the measures that local DRRMO should implement is installing signage that bear contact details.

He explained the faster the incident is reported the faster is the response.

“Every second counts so we have to train our local responders kay sila ang una makasagap sa information so mas maayo kung naay mga signages on how the LDRRMO can be contacted,” Francisco said.

“Like kung naay vehicular accident kung dali matawag ang incident dali rapud maka responde ang mga local responders,” he added.

Francisco said the PDRRMO is still upgrading their rescue assets and other equipment, even as the disaster office is strengthening the prevention, mitigation and preparedness efforts.
