THE Technical Education and Skills Authority (Tesda), in partnership with local government units (LGUs), has turned over houses to 20 families in Manapla town and Cadiz City.

In Manapla, 10 families received five duplex-type shelters at Gawad Kalinga Village, Barangay Punta Mesa on February 1.

The turnover ceremony was led by Tesda- Western Visayas director Ashary Banto and Manapla Mayor Ma. Lourdes Escalante.

Also present were Gawad Kalinga Director Ariel Patria and officials of Tesda-Negros Occidental and barangay council.

It can be recalled that during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, Manapla was among the hardly-hit LGUs in the province.

Tesda then launched its Yolanda Rehabilitation and Recovery Program Training and Production project.

Tesda-Negros Occidental, in a press release on Wednesday, February 6, said the program pushes for sustainable development among Yolanda-affected communities through provision of livelihood and skills training opportunities.

In Cadiz City, another 10 families also received the same number of house units in Barangay Daga last month.

Like those in Manapla, the recipient-families have also transferred in their new and permanent shelters.

The awarding ceremony was also attended by Tesda officials and representatives of various partners including I-Home, Universal School of Applied Technology of Sagay City, Golden Prime Institute for Technology Services Inc., and Barangay Council officials. (PR)
