Bacolod gears up for Chicken Inasal Festival

THE City Government of Bacolod is now preparing for the second year staging of the Chicken Inasal Festival this May.

Councilor Em Ang, chairperson of the City Council committee on tourism, said on Wednesday, February 6, that this is an election year, the people are busy for an election including the city officials who are running will be going out to campaign starting March 30, but the city’s preparation will go on for the second Chicken Inasal Festival.

She said the festival will be held in the first week of May.

“We will be calling for a meeting very soon to finalize everything for staging the festival,” she added.

Last year, the first Inasal Festival was held at Araneta Street with a 300-meter long of grilled chicken.

The celebration was officially opened by Ambassador of Russia to the Philippines Igor Khovaev.

The City Government provided about 3,000 chicken which was grilled by chicken vendors in Bacolod and some of them from the Manokan Country.

This year, Ang said they will implement some changes and improvement of the celebration.

She said they will still tap the participation of the chicken inasal vendors in Bacolod.

“The festival also emphasizes that the chicken inasal is really from Bacolod because lately, some cities also claimed that they are the origin of chicken inasal,” she added.

In 2009, the City Government attempted to break the world record in the longest barbeque grill.

In 2018, the City Council approved the amendment of some provisions in the City Ordinance No. 482, known as the “Manokan Country Inasal Festival” in the City of Bacolod, like the coverage of the festival and the budget.

Aside from inasal festival, Bacolod already have the MassKara Festival, BacoLaodiat Festival, and Diwali Festival.
