Sungduan: Fvegnash

ANOTHER Cordilleran big event promoting the very rich cultural heritage of the region was launched in Hong Kong.

This time it is the celebration of the “Fvegnash,” also known as thanks giving day celebrated every month of June after the harvest season in Sadanga, Mountain Province.

Organized by the Sadanga Organization Hong Kong headed by the group’s president Diana Ing-inga, the celebration held at Pier 9, Central showed the strong unity of the Overseas Filipino Workers and how they respect their own culture.

Vlogger and Hong Kong media member Czarina Bawing said the special occasion did not only gather the Cordillerans but also promoted the unique culture and tradition of the Cordillera in other nation.

The 1st “Fvegnash” dubbed “Fvegnash! Navalor ka, Ugali tako ay maes esha itako ipala ta rumwev na sadanga” (Fvegnash! You are valued, for the progress of Sadanga, the value of unity should be shown”) showcased the cultural presentation and competition.

Barangay Belwang and Bekigan featured the “Se-eb” which is a tradition done in welcoming a new born baby boy.

Meanwhile, Barangay Demang and Población performed the tradition called “Ob-obfo” showing how the members of the community work together to accomplish a difficult task.

On the other hand, Barangay Anabel and Betwagan performed the traditional practice “Senag” wherein a man brings firewood to the parents of the woman he loves then proposes for marriage.

Guest Speaker DILG Benguet Director Rufina Fegcan lauded the organizers for the successful event and enjoined everyone to continue the tradition.

Also happy to witness such meaningful event coordinated by the young generation is Juana Bab-anga, the mother of all Sadanga OFWS’s in Hong Kong. She said the event brought them together and a special day to thank the Almighty for all the blessings that they have been receiving as OFWs in HK.
