A THIRD fire-substation located at West Quirino Hill in Baguio City will start serving the whole of Quirino Hill including Barangays Pinget and Happy Homes.

This following the official blessing of the P6 million West Quirino Hill Fire Substation.

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan said plans are now being studied for the creation of additional fire substations in various areas of the city for the firefighters to respond to fire incidents immediately.

“We want to place other fire substations in important and strategic areas in the city. The first fire substation that we have is in Irisan, this was followed by the P24 million police and fire substation at Aurora Hill, and this is now the third fire substation, and a 5,000 square meter area for our fourth fire substation which will serve the Pacdal-Gibraltar-Mines View area will hopefully be erected soon,” Domogan said.

During the blessing of the third fire substation, Domogan called on the residents of West Quirino Hill to help in the use, protection and maintenance of the facility.

“We want to have many fire sub stations as possible but we are praying that this should not be used for fire related purposes but for other purposes. But whether we like it or not, fire incidents still happen. This facility can also be used as an evacuation center during calamities,” Domogan added.

Senior Superintendent Maria Sofia Mendoza, regional director of the Bureau of Fire Protection Cordillera (BFP-CAR) said this development is a success not only of the bureau but the immediate barangays which will be served by this fire substation.

“The BFP Cordillera is honored for this formal event for the West Quirino Hill Fire substation. This fire substation is another forefront in the City of Baguio which will enable the BFP to maintain a high level of operational readiness and swift response to any eventualities and emergencies,” Mendoza said.

Mendoza also approved the assignment of additional firefighters from the initial five to seven personnel.
