THE Bacolod City Council ratified the contract of services enteredbetween the City Government and IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC) for the P165 million collection, hauling, and disposal of garbage and solid waste management.
The contract was ratified during the regular session on Wednesday, February 6.
Those who voted in favor of the contract were Councilors Caesar Distrito, Cindy Rojas, Bartolome Orola, Em Ang, Dindo Ramos, Renecito Novero, Elmer Sy, Sonya Verdeflor, Ann Marie Palermo, Lady Gles Gonzales-Pallen, Ayesha Villaflor, and Wilson Gamboa Jr.
Councilor Claudio Puentevella opposed the move while Councilor Ricardo Tan was absent.
The P165 million contract is intended for the period of March to December this year.
At present, the city government is paying P16 million per month for garbage hauling and collection services.
Distrito said the current contract is much cheaper than the previous contractor of the city wherein they paid P30 million a month for the collection, hauling, and disposal of garbage and solid waste management.
Puentevella earlier said he opposed the renewal of IPM-CDC’s contract because it is really a disadvantage to the people of Bacolod.
He said the City Government will be paying at least P500,000 a day to the garbage hauler.
“This is disadvantageous to the city because we are paying a big amount to the IPM-CDC and their services are not sufficient to collect all the garbage here,” he added. (MAP)
