Senator reassures support to sugar industry

SENATOR Joseph Victor Ejercito has reassured his full support to the sugar industry amid the proposed sugar liberalization.

Ejercito, in a radio interview on Friday, February 8, said he has already met with Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri relative to the issue, adding they may come up with a stand.

The senator, who is one of the sponsors of the Sugarcane Industry Development Act in the Senate, said they will try to stimulate and revive the sugar industry with their moves.

Any legislation relative to the sugar industry will be properly scrutinized, he further said.

Meanwhile, Ejercito said he is hoping that the creation of the Department on Human Settlement will soon be realized.

He said they expect that the President will sign the law on February 22 to address the housing problem and other related issues.
