FOLLOWING the celebration of the Chinese New Year on the 5th and just before the salary release on the 15th, other happenings that the first half of February have in store for us are the annual-and-actual celebration of the so-called “most romantic day of the year”—Feb. 14.
Why not? It’s that time of year when our social media feeds are probably filled with updates and stunts of anything meant to “sweep someone off their feet.” (P.S I’m not being bitter. It’s just the way it used to be, is, and will be.)
Whether we’re in a relationship, happily single, happily married, or in a “Nah, it’s complicated” kind of scenario, we all have these collected significant experiences and/or moments that make Feb. 14 extra special. Four of our ‘Zup readers shared some of the most romantic moments they were able to experience and do for someone that will always remain in their hearts.
“The only Valentine experience I remember so vividly was two years ago, the time when my ex slipped a tiny note inside my favorite book. It was cliché and sappy but he was my first boyfriend so I didn’t mind at all. In there, he wrote short poems of his favorite things about me. “I forgot what year it happened, but as far as I can remember, my cousin and I surprised our lolo and lola with a Valentine’s card and flowers. We did that to show our gratitude to them for their unending love for us. After seeing their smiling and happy faces, it made me realize that Valentine’s Day is more meaningful if you celebrate it together with the ones who are very important to you—those who truly matter most. “It was Feb. 14, 2017, the first year we celebrated Valentine’s Day together as a couple. I really wanted that day to be very special for us, and I wanted it to be something that she would always remember. We both had our classes that day, but after mine ended, I went right away and waited for her outside of their school—bringing with me some of her favorite chocolates and a bouquet of flowers. To my surprise, my girl almost cried when she saw me. That was the most romantic thing that I have done for her on Valentine’s Day. “It was two ‘Valentine’s Day’ celebrations ago when I had to look for my Valentine’s gift. I was in the living room together with my friends, since we came from our PE class and our next class was at 2 p.m. He came to my house unexpectedly. Since we’re not the ‘celebrate Valentine’s Day’ type, I didn’t expect anything from him. His visit was quick and short like he just wanted to say hi. When it was time for him to leave, he said that he hid something in the living room. Frantic, I and my friends searched the entire living room. Eventually, I found it on top of our TV stand. It was a box with a little teddy bear, paper soaps in shape of roses and a letter—pero walay suwat.” —Alexis Mae Gabuya, 20, BA Communication student
