Servania takes on unbeaten prospect

GENESIS Servania trades leathers with unbeaten prospect Carlos Castro on Monday, Feb. 11, at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. Servania is moving back down back to the 122-pound division, the weight division that he fought in most of his career. The fight is a 10-round non-title fight.

After leaving the Philippines to start fresh in Japan, the 27-year-old Servania moved up to the featherweight division. He challenged World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight king Oscar Valdez and lost by unanimous decision in a very exciting fight two years ago.

Since then, he has won three in a row, with his latest, a third-round knockout of Carlos Carlson last Sept. 28. Servania, a native of Bacolod City, tipped the scales at 121.6 pounds, while the 24-year-old Castro weighed-in at 121 pounds. Servania is 32-1 with 15 knockouts, while Castro is 21-0 with nine knockouts.

“He is well conditioned,” said Servania’s coach and former ALA Gym teammate Mark Gil Melligen. “This fight is 50-50.” (EKA)
