Catap-Lacson: Inexpensive ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day

ASIDE from the celebration of the Chinese New Year, February also marks one of the most anticipated and highly celebrated occasions of the year - Valentine’s Day. It may have become commercialized in the sense that a lot of people prefer to buy gifts and special things for their loved one to mark this day, nevertheless, without these material things and grandiose dates or vacations, we can all still make our special someone feel loved.

Here are some ways on how to spend the V-Day without hurting your pocket:

1. Prepare a hearty home cooked meal.

As they say, the way to a man’s heart (and even a woman too) is through the stomach. If you’re on the newbie side of cooking, there are a lot of ways on how you can help yourself in the kitchen. You may want to prepare his or her favorite food, or maybe something he or she dreams of devouring on. Either way, setting up a romantic dinner in a cozy spot in your home will definitely do the trick.

2. Enjoy the outdoors.

A walk in the park and a picnic as the sun sets is also one way of winning your special someone’s heart on Valentine’s Day. Just pack in some snacks and light meals and delight in the fresh and relaxing ambience of the outdoors. Don’t forget to capture these moments and make them lasting memories of your special day. You may also want to try food hopping in night markets and food parks and eat your heart out on hearts’ day!

3. Enjoy a movie marathon.

For movie geeks or TV series fanatics, you may just simply spend a lazy day as couch potatoes while munching some delicious bites while watching your favorite movie of TV show. A new film which both of you haven’t watched yet can also fill in your day as you mark this special event with your sweetheart. Don’t forget the popcorn to complete your movie date!

4. Try making some artsy gift.

If you’re into some kind of arts and crafts, making something interesting for your loved one will certainly say it all. You may try some painting, or make a simple memento to express how you value him or her. These will not only last a lifetime but also will further hone or develop your sense of creativity and innovativeness.

5. Express your love in words.

For those who are fond of writing essays and poems, I bet writing one for your special someone will not be too hard especially when you’ve got all the inspiration you need to keep those creative juices going. For someone who will get to receive such a gift must really be overwhelming and indeed delightful that they will definitely be swept away with your words of affection.

Let us not also forget that we don’t have to wait for Valentine’s Day to make our loved one feel special. At most times, it only takes a simple “I Love You” or a tight hug for you to send your love to them. It doesn’t take a dozen roses or a luxurious gift to say how much you love a person; besides, love do not certainly cost a thing.
