Some evacuees at Capitol grounds return home

THE head of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWD) in Misamis Oriental said some of the displaced families encamped at the Capitol grounds have returned to their homes in Sitio Camansi, Banglay, in Lagonglong town.

PSWD head Jhunleymar Abella said from 48 families who stayed in makeshift shelters about eight months ago, only 25 families or 107 individuals opted to stay while others went home.

The displaced families fled their homes last May to avoid being caught in crossfire in renewed skirmishes between the New People’s Army (NPA) and government troops.

"As of last week nga monitoring naa na lang 25 families or 107 individuals sa encampment,"Abella said.

However, Abella said some of those who stayed explained that those who went home will just come back.

"Kung amo silang pangutan-on moingon sila nga ang uban nanguli daw pero

mobalik ra daw so ga-change from time to time ang among record," he added.

PSWD has assured that it assigned personnel to regularly monitor the condition of the evacuees.

Abella said PSWD have so far spent nearly P200, 000 for rice, canned goods, and needs of the evacuees.

The evacuees are insisting they would stay at the encampment unless the military troops leave their community.
