dySS/Barangay RT is a win away from taking home the crown of the Newsmen Basketball Association of Cebu (NBAC) after a come-from-behind 88-76 victory over undermanned Organique SunStar/Manila Bulletin/My TV in the best-of-three finals last Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Cebu Eastern College Gym.
Team Organique dominated the first three quarters with its fast-paced offense coupled by its stifling defense. and entered the final quarter with a comfortable 54-39 lead.
Team Organique, which played with only six players, looked fatigued and lost its steam in the fourth quarter. dySS capitalized on it and outscored Team Organique by 15 points, 30-15, in that period. Gabriel Bonjoc and Kim Rossell lead dySS with 14 and 11, respectively in that period.
With the game tied at 69, Calvin Cordova had a chance to win it for Team Organique with a drive. But despite the contact, there was no whistle by the referee, which sent the game to overtime.
From then on it was all dySS, as it outgunned Team Organique 17-7 in overtime.
Bonjoc led DYSS with 28 points, while Rosell and Gesim added 17 and 14, respectively. Jonas Panerio was Team Organique’s top scorer with 27 markers, Robert Aniñon added 21 and Chum Cal had 10. Game 2 is on Sunday, Feb. 17, at the CEC Gym. (EKA)
