DSWD hosts fun run to celebrate Adoption Consciousness Week

HEALTH buffs and participants joined the fun run hosted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Monday, February 11, as part of the Adoption Consciousness Week Celebration 2019.

Pink was designated as official color. Participants ran the route from Olongapo Gapan Road Intersection to Bren Z. Guaio Convention Center.

The week-long activity highlights the theme, “Pagmamahal Palaganapin, Legal na Pag-aampon Ating Gawin! (Spread Unconditional Love through Legal Adoption),” which reiterates the call to ensure that orphaned, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered children are provided with the secure, permanent and loving homes which they deserve.

Under the law, simulation of birth and tampering with the civil registry of a child is a criminal offense that may lead to six years and one day to 12 years imprisonment, and/or a fine not exceeding P50,000.

From 2009 to 2017, the DSWD issued 6,433 Certifications Declaring a Child Legally Available for Adoption (CDCLAA).

In the same period, the Intercountry Adoption Board (ICAB) received a total of 3,944 children cleared for inter-country adoption and 3,660 children matched for inter-country adoption.

Meanwhile, from 2010 to 2017, the DSWD facilitated the placement of 1,818 children for domestic adoption.
