Ecstasy may be sold by suspects out on bail: RID 7

DRUG personalities who are out of jail on bail may be supplying Ecstasy tablets in Metro Cebu.

Regional Intelligence Division (RID) 7 Chief Remus Medina said they had been monitoring some of these persons since their release.

He said they should not have been allowed to post bail because they were arrested in drug busts. Once cases were filed against them in courts, Medina said they had no hold on the accused.

“Dapat no bail itong kaso nila pero ang court ang nag-decide na bigyan sila ng bail (It was the court that decided to let them post bail). Pero ongoing yung kaso nila, may hearing pa (Their cases, though, are ongoing. There are still hearings),” Medina said.

Based on the drug matrix that was reported by Superbalita and SunStar Cebu, Cebu had a major Ecstasy problem, he said.

The police official, however, clarified that only children of wealthy families could afford to buy Ecstasy tablets that cost P2,000 each.

He also said the increase in demand for the party drug usually coincided with big events that were held in Metro Cebu, such as the annual Sinulog festival.

The RID 7 has teamed up with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7 to monitor night clubs included in the matrix.

Police believe party drugs are being sold in disco party events during the weekend.

Meanwhile, the complaints filed by the Guadalupe Police Station against suspected party drug seller Nicole Allan Casiño were dismissed after the chemical test on the suspected drug items seized from him tested negative.

Guadalupe Police Station Chief Dexter Basirgo admitted that the party drugs were not tested right away.

Casiño still has pending cases in court, which will be heard next month.

Casiño, who was arrested in a drug bust in Barangay Apas, Cebu City last December, identified a former Binibining Cebu candidate as his source of illegal drugs, which led to her arrest in an entrapment.

Police operated on Casiño after a disc jockey who was nabbed for illegal drug possession identified him as his source. (From AYB of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
