Davao spikers, tracksters win

THE Ateneo de Davao University (Addu)-bannered Davao Region (R11) spanked Zamboanga Peninsula (R9), 25-9, 25-12, 25-15, to emerge women's volleyball champion of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (Ceap) Mindanao 2019 finals held at Xavier University gym in Cagayan de Oro City over the weekend.

In earlier games, Davao escaped past St. Therese College of Caraga Region, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19, and defeated Xavier University of Northern Mindanao, 15-12, 25-15, 25-18.

Addu coach Shane Alagao said four teams were entered in the volleyfest representing regions 9, 10, 11 and 13.

The team with the most number of wins will be declared champion, Alagao told SunStar Davao via Facebook.

Davao ruled the event, unbeaten in three outings.

Meanwhile, Davao athletics team collected a total of 15 gold medals, nine silvers and three bronzes.

The gold winners were Lyle Marcos (100 meters), Ivandrei Lopez (800m, long jump), Kyann Rule (1500m, 3000m), Alexis Randy Canedo (javelin throw), Julianna Laurel (400m), Maria Mempin (800m, 1500m), Jilla Mae Ligas (3000m), Alleya Jonna Baiño (shot put, javelin throw, discus throw), girls 4x100m relay team and 4x400m relay team.

Canedo (shot put, discus throw), Shajed Ko (long jump), boys 4x100m relay team and 4x400m relay team, Danna Ocular (100m), Julianna Marie Laurel (200m) and Jilla Mae Ligas (800m, 1500m) clinched silvers.
