Cordillera police continues to expand training courses

THE Police Regional Office in the Cordillera(PRO-COR) continues to provide and expand its training courses for police officers and non-commissioned officers.

In the weekly radio programs “Pulis Mo, Kaibigan ko,” Superintendent Carter Ballones of the Cordillera Administrative Region Training Center (CARTC) explained the creation of the regional training center is part of the Department of the Interior and Local Governments(DILG) Philippine Public Safety College(PPSC) and the National Police Training Institute(NPTI).

“The NPTI trains, molds and educates police non-commissioned officers. We have six consecutive units at the PPSC, the National Police College caters to the trainings for officers while NPTI caters for non-commissioned officers,” Ballones said.

CARTC provides mandatory trainings for Police Officer 1 to 3 which starts with the Public Safety Recruit Course wherein for every promotion, specific trainings must be undertaken by a candidate for promotion.

“After reaching PO3 status, the police personnel can now undergo the junior leadership course, senior leadership course and the officers candidate training course based on their time and grade or based on the number of years of a candidate in his or her present rank based on the training linear list which indicates who may undergo the said trainings,” the CARTC Head stated.

On the other hand, the Regional Special Training Unit (RSTU) under the PNP Training Service is the mother unit of the PNP which provides specialized trainings having 17 regional training units and four schools.

Superintendent Dianne Bangcawayan who heads the RSTU explained the unit’s provision of training to all non - uniformed personnel coming from the tri-bureaus tapped by the PNP to attend the specific trainings.

“Many police personnel now avail of the various specialized trainings under the RSTU like the School for Values Leadership which is in charge of PNP trainings for moral recovery and transformation programs. We also provide the School for Sports and Skills Development which is in charge of providing skills training like motorcycle riding courses and SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) trainings,” Bangcawayan said.

Aside from the said schools of training, RSTU also provides specialized courses On logistics, finance, comptrollership and others for competencies.

“We also have the school for field technical training service like investigation courses, the women and children’s desk, and other investigation related courses. The RSTU also provides specialized trainings for candidates coming from the CARTC,” Bangcawayan added.

The provision for training of PRO-COR personnel continues to widen their knowledge and expertise in administrative and operational procedures set by the regional command.
