Cavo holds 1st Kaganapan market summit

THE City Government of San Fernando through its City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (Cavo) in partnership with the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) on Monday, February 11, held the first market summit in line with the celebration of the 18th cityhood charter anniversary or Kaganapan at the mini convention center of Heroes Hall here.

Cavo veterinarian Dr. Ryan Paul Manlapaz said that the event aims to train participants on the proper handling and maintenance and hygiene of meats.

Butchers in slaughterhouses, chicken dressers, meat vendors, and dealers from the public market of City of San Fernando were the participants in the summit.

The resource speakers were all from the NMIS namely acting director II Dr. Eduardo Oblena, meat standard development and consumer protection section head and supervising meat control officer Dr. Yvette Soller, consumer information and protection assistance section focal person Sally Entac, locally registered meat establishment focal person Florence Villaflores, and enforcement head and assistant regional director Dr. Mateo Puato.

For his part, Mayor Edwin Santiago said that it is very important that the participants know what's right to protect consumers from the dangers and disadvantages of some unprocessed meats and let them stay healthy to avoid sickness. (Nicole Renee David)
