Vipers, ANS 96’ victorious

THE 2K6ers Vipers and the ANS 96’ 40Infinity both started their season on a high note after defeating separate foes in the elimination round of the Abellana National School Alumni Basketball (ANSABL) on Feb. 3 at the Zapatera Gymnasium.

The Vipers held off a late comeback from a determined ANS 2K1 squad to pull off a closely-contested 86-83 win in its debut game. The Vipers rushed to an early lead in the opening quarter but ANS 2K1 quickly recovered in the next period.

The Vipers once again threatened to pull away in the third period but the 2K1 fought back to bring the game within two points. The Vipers managed to ward off 2K1 and stay ahead for a three-point win.

The 40Infinity, meanwhile, also had an impressive debut escaping DCB 95, 109-105.

Marlon Mariano brought his all-around game for the 40Infinity as he flirted with a triple-double with 26 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists on top of four steals.

Remel Espina provided the needed support, handing out 20 points, six rebounds and two steals, while Geoper Perez contributed 20 points, six rebounds and two steals. Bren Esmer Escultor had a double-double with 14 markers and 10 boards.

Kiernel Remedio finished with 20 points, Alfonso Ole chipped in 13 and Ronnie Caballes added 12 in a losing effort for DCB 95. (RSC)
