Limketkai approves proposed drainage proposal

AFTER months of negotiations, the Limketkai Sons Inc. and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) finally reached an agreement to continue with the proposed drainage system which is seen to solve flooding in C.M. Recto Avenue.

Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr. said on December 28, 2018, Limketkai agreed to allow the government to start digging its property to connect the Agora drainage to Bitan-ag creek through the Limketkai drive.

It can be recalled that Limketkai refused this arrangement but later on asked the DPWH to send them an official request of their proposal.

Lao, committee chair of the City Council committee on public utilities said, both parties signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on February 8 to proceed with the project.

Lao said he was informed by the lawyer of the Limketkai group and DPWH engineer Leowald Pecore that the MOA was signed last week.

But Lao said Limketkai has set certain conditions, such as constructing a single-barrel box culvert instead of the existing double-barrel design.

“Pero karon ningsugot na ang Limketkai na diha moagi ang drainage sa Limketkai drive, pero ang ilang condition dili double-barrel, kundili single-barrel nga klase sa drainage,” he said.

Lao said as soon as construction starts, families along the creeks will be relocated.

He said 12 families in Kolambug, Lapasan, 7 families along Bubunawan River, and 7 families in Barangay Camaman-an are ready to transfer to relocation sites.

“Target nato first quarter mahuman na gyud para wala nay urban flooding,” Lao added.
