Son hacks parents, burns father

A MAN died while his wife was injured after their son hacked them inside their house in Barangay Igmaya-an, Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental Monday night, February 11.

Killed was Helardo Benarao, 55, while wounded was his wife, Sinona, 58.

Chief Inspector Roberto Indiape Jr., chief of Murcia Municipal Police Station, said the land area where the incident happened was geographically under Barangay Minoyan, Murcia town, but the victims are residents of Salvador Benedicto town.

Indiape said the victims' son, 36-year-old Jun-Jun, allegedly attacked his father with a bolo after they had a heated argument.

His mother tried to pacify them but she was also hacked.

Helardo sustained multiple hack wounds to his head and body. He died on the spot.

He was even brought by the suspect outside their house and lighted him while his body was covered with mat.

Indiape said Helardo was partially burned.

Sinona was brought to a hospital through the help of her child who also asked assistance from a village watchman who is their neighbor.

She is confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital

in Bacolod City.

Police recovered two bolos at the crime scene but they cannot yet tell if both bolos were used in the crime.

The suspect remains at large.

Indiape said the family alleged that the suspect is suffering from a mental illness.

It even triggered him to be violent when his wife reportedly left him for a week now, he added.

Indiape said the family has yet to decide if they will press charges against the suspect.

Also on Monday, February 11, a 19-year-old boy was stabbed by a minor in Barangay Caridad, Bago City.

Police identified the victim as Michael Lasconia of Calatrava town.

Investigation showed that the 17-year-old suspect, whose name was withheld, accidentally stabbed the victim after the latter allegedly punched him when a heated argument ensued between them.

The victim was brought to a hospital while the suspect was referred to a crisis center. (With reports from Christopher D. Yanson, CHMSC-Talisay intern)
