Bzzzzz: Where the heads of Inday Sara, Senator Risa are - not where they must be? Women leaders snipe at each other.

Barbs of the day

In the word war between Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and Senator Risa Hontiveros, Risa noted that Sara criticized her for the senator's opposition to the proposal to bring down the age of criminal liability. An SWS survey showed that majority of Filipinos oppose the proposal. "How's that for a reality check?" Hontiveros said. Adding this punch: "Pardon my French but I'm not the one with my head in my ass."

After chiding Risa that an attack is an attack and telling her not to use attack, validation and vindication in one sentence, the presidential daughter slammed with:

"And you still believe your head is on your shoulders?"

Senator Hontiveros is not up for reelection yet and Mayor Sara is running for another term, in Davao. But they appear to be clawing at each other on the national stage.

The score: 1-1

The Visayas ombudsman has dismissed a complaint against Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, along with four councilors and two department heads. A judge has thrown out a criminal charge against Councilor Joel Garganera, which the mayor's wife Margot filed against him when she was acting mayor.

The first case involves a "wrongly assigned" ambulance; the second, about an "unreturned" car : both vehicles belonging to the city.

The score: one for BOPK and one for Partido Barug. No blood drawn yet.

Things to talk about

* PAMATONG'S LAWSUIT. The Supreme Court has junked the "quo warranto" petition filed against President Duterte by perennial presidential candidate Ely Pamatong.

The SC said it was filed out of time, two years after Duterte was elected and assumed office. In former SC Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno's quo warranto, the tribunal disregarded the prescription period. But then, some of its members lusted for her removal and someone powerful publicly said he would destroy her.

And Pamatong had no legal standing. He lost it much earlier, in several silly lawsuits where his causes couldn't stand serious scrutiny.

Malacañang said the complaint was "bereft of actual and legal basis." Palace communicators could barely resist saying it was filed by a nut-job.

* THE MESSAGE OF A RESTAURANT CHEF to Sunshine Cruz: "Sarap mo pagjakulan." What does it mean, asked one Cebu City councilor. The message, with other notes to the movie actress about her daughter, cost the chef his job at the restaurant.

What they must mean

* JUAN PONCE ENRILE, at a forum for would-be senators: "My vision for the country is for it to believe in something beyond its ability to understand and to live peacefully and secure."

That was his answer after a law school dean who asked the questions told him his answers were "motherhood" statements. "Believe in something beyond (a country's) ability to understand," did JPE say? It must include blind faith in, like, the system of justice that enables him to run for the same office that he allegedly plundered.

* IMEE MARCOS, another aspirant for the Senate, in Tagalog, when asked about her degree from Princeton: "I believe this is the first generation that can end hunger and poverty. There's science for agriculture....(and so on in a lengthy reply)."

What about that false claim of having graduated at Princeton? "It's the election season. They did it too to Bongbong and others I know. My record speaks for itself. Performance and it can be seen I have helped many people... (and so on in another lengthy talk discourse)."

Imee was obviously instructing the audience on how to reply without getting anywhere near what was asked.
