National Arts Month to kick off on February 15

THE National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Tourism Office of the City of San Fernando will launch the celebration of the National Arts Month on February 15, at 3 p.m., at Vista Mall, City of San Fernando.

The initial activities consist of poetry reading, musical numbers, film showing, photo and lantern exhibits, and the launching of UP Clark’s Lirip: Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies as well as Ching Pangilinan’s book Ding Mikakapatad.

Mayor Edwin Santiago of San Fernando, Dr. Juliet Mallari of NCCA, Ching Pangilinan of San Fernando Tourism Office, and Dr. Grace Jamon of UP Clark will participate in the grand launch.

A longer celebration will happen on February 25 to 26 at the Orchid Gardens in San Fernando. The National Committee on Literary Arts, a sub- committee of the NCCA, will highlight the annual “Ani ng Sining” event. Fittingly, the sub- theme NAMNAMIN (food and art) finds its natural setting in Pampanga, which is famous for its finest cuisine.

NAMNAMIN: National Arts Month 2019 will feature various artists from the different regions who will be sharing space in a creative culinary environment. Nearly everything about food will be celebrated through performances, panel discussions, cooking demonstrations, music, and exhibits.

The keynote address will be delivered by National Artist Virgilio S. Almario. Other well-known writers and National Artists such as Dr. Bienvenido Lumbera and Dr. Resil Mojares will also grace the event. An exhibit of the photographs of the national literary artists will be a special feature of the celebration.

A cultural tour for the delegates will be spearheaded by the Tourism Office of San Fernando.

The San Fernando Tourism Office, Department of Tourism Region III, Magalang Tourism Office, Pampanga State Agricultural University, and Balanghai restaurant are the main partners of NCCA in celebrating the National Arts Month in Pampanga. (PR)
