Village exec, pal nabbed in anti-drug operation

TWO people, including a village official, were arrested for possession of illegal drugs and unlicensed firearms in an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City, the police said Wednesday, February 13.

Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested suspects as Julficar Ladjahali, 47, the village chief of Lagasan, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi; and Nixon Imdani, 46.

Licup said Ladjahali and Imdani were arrested by the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) of the Police Station 11 headed by Chief Inspector Elemer Solon around 6 p.m. Tuesday in San Jose Gusu village.

He said the two were arrested after they sold a small-size heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet of suspected “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) to an undercover policeman in exchange for P500.

He said seized from their possessions were four medium-sized heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu, illegal drug paraphernalia, a caliber .45 pistol with ammunition, 20 rounds of ammunition of caliber 5.56 Armalite rifle, 25 rounds ammunition for .9-milimeter pistol, and P500 marked money.

He said the suspects were detained while charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition are set to be filed against them. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
