Militiaman hurt in anti-personnel mine blast

A MILITIAMAN was injured in an anti-personnel mine explosion in the province of Maguindanao, the military said Wednesday, February 13.

The Army’s 6th Infantry Divison reported that the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sitio Pansol in Macasampen village, Guindulungan, Maguindanao.

The anti-personnel mine was placed near an old nipa house.

“The explosion was meant to inflict harm on troops patrolling the area,” said Major General Cirilito Sobejana, Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander.

Sobejana, who is also the Joint Task Force Central commander, did not release the identity of the injured militiaman except to say that he is under the Army’s 38th Infantry Battalion.

He said that personnel of the 90th Infantry Battalion and the Guindulungan police force immediately responded and secured the area to preempt possible attacks.

The responding troops brought the wounded militiaman to Camp Siongco Station Hospital for medical attention.

“We will ensure that assistance will be extended to facilitate the recovery of our wounded comrade,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, Western Mindanao Command chief.

“As we speak, government forces continue to secure the area and establish the circumstances of the incident,” he added. - Bong Garcia
