THE Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) District IV Field Unit has extended services to animal raisers in San Enrique during the town's Farmers' Day celebration recently.

PVO, in collaboration with the Municipal Agriculture Office, conducted veterinary consultation to 147 farmer-raisers.

The recipients are raising 253 heads of swine; 2,259 poultry animals; 14 carabaos; two cattle; and 31 goats.

Information education campaign (IEC) about rabies awareness and responsible pet ownership was also conducted. It was attended by at least 500 farmers who were taught on the threat and effects of canine rabies virus as well as how it could be prevented and eradicated.

The IEC, led by District IV Veterinarian Emgie Biera-Gaspan, is an initial activity towards organizing the Dog Owners Club in the district particularly in San Enrique.

The PVO earlier committed to attain zero canine rabies target through full implementation of its Rabies Control Action Plan 2019. The plan includes organization of dog owners club, information and education campaign, and massive dog vaccination, among others.

Considering the increasing confirmed cases of canine rabies in the province since last year, PVO through its district field units is deploying personnel to different localities who will ensure the implementation of activities under the program. (EPN)
