THE Negros Press Club (NPC) has sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) following the spread of “malicious” drug lists implicating about 15 journalists in Negros Occidental as alleged drug protectors.

NPC outgoing president Renato Duran and outgoing secretary Dolly Yasa, along with outgoing treasurer and incoming secretary Glazyl Masculino, met on Wednesday, February 12, with NBI Bacolod head Renoir Baldovino.

Three lists came out recently, tagging media men, law enforcers, politicians, and personalities in the illegal drug trade.

Duran told Baldovino about his concern, considering that the lists were “alarming” already.

He asked the bureau to probe the issue and to trace the person or persons behind the circulation of the lists.

“We believe that innocent names were dragged in this false accusations, we will not take this sitting down,” Duran said. “We will seek the assistance of proper authorities to uncover the true identity or identities of those spreading these lies.”

“We want to identify the culprit behind this, to prevent further damage on our other colleagues,” he added.

In response, Baldovino said he also learned about it from the newspaper, but nobody from the media went to his office yet.

He said they will look on the matter, as he also recommended to have it directly reported to the Cybercrime Division of NBI in Manila for immediate action.

The higher bureau has many capabilities to immediately identify the culprit behind the said lists, he added.

Recently, reports said that the NBI-Manila, through the Cybercrime Division has started their investigation on the said matter.

Meanwhile, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas-Negros Occidental Chapter, in a statement on Wednesday, denounced the malicious acts of disseminating alleged lists of Negros-based broadcasters involved as protectors or otherwise of drug-related operations in the province.

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines and the NPA also came out with a statement the other day, denouncing the lists.
