Kung-Fu Hustle 2 in the works

KUNG-FU Hustle 2 is currently in the works as Stephen Chow creates the continuation to its acclaimed first film.

This is the second installment to the blockbuster movie in 2004, Kung-Fu Hustle. Apple Daily, a Hong-Kong entertainment outlet, reported that Chow is currently working on the second installment.

Chow said that the movie will not be a sequel to the first one yet serves as a continuation to the events that transpired in the original film.

The new trailer for the second installment has just dropped, yet Chow stated that he is still working on the sets and places that will be shot for the film. Moreover, he is still thinking of a title for the new movie and as of now, dubbing it as “Kung-Fu Hustle 2.”

He also said that he will be working on this once he finishes creating the sequel to one of his films, The Mermaid (2016), which has earned its reputation as the fourth highest grossing film in China since its premier.

As a filmmaker and a martial artist, Chow starred on the first movie as Sing, the lead character who wanted to be a martial artist and master the Buddhist Palm technique. In Chinatown, they pretended to be a part of a gang that run the city. In return, the gang started to hunt them down. He, then, found Pigsty Alley where known martial artists resided, thus, he began to fulfill his childhood dream. He started to act as the hero who would save the residents of Pigsty Alley from the gang.

The original film casted famous Hong Kong action stars in the 70s and earned $102 million despite its measly starting production budget of $20 million. This allowed the film to be praised by critics and viewers due to its rich story and cinematic despite its small budget. (Von Daniel R. Plasencia, USC Intern)
