Vicente: It’s the season

ELECTION time is around the corner.

And it’s the season those campaigning are on a generous mood. Programs after programs are initiated with the acknowledgment of the candidates’ names or their party.

Nothing is wrong about it, but the sad truth is that it will only last until the elections. Some of them will continue to be generous because it is their nature.

Simultaneous with the election period are the regional meets in preparation for the Palarong Pambansa and evidently, political hopefuls are making their presence felt as donations after donations are pouring in different regions for athletes.

Some athletes are provided with uniforms, some with shoes, some with bags, some with folding beds, and many other freebies, of course with their own personal touch or specifications to make sure that it will be identified with them.

What is going on right now with the athletes of the different regions is actually the ideal life for them which they only experience “once in a blue moon.”

Athletes are used to sleeping on mats or sleeping bags if they could afford it, some would have to make do with flattened cardboard boxes. Shoes are not provided so they are forced to use their old personal shoes even if it’s all torn up, some have to compete on barefoot if allowed, some regions have no uniforms and many other challenges that they face in route to the Palarong Pambansa.

To all those kind-hearted politicians, we plead for you to hear the plea and see the situation of our athletes. If you cannot help them with your personal finances, please help them with ordinances and resolutions to institutionalize their support. These are young people and the challenge they face makes them stronger and learn life first hand but not to the point that they are neglected of small favors that they deserve.

We should understand they start their ordeal during training, until when they compete. At least ease one stage and their performance should show improvement and success, just think of them as your kids and as their parent you want them to learn and be strong for the challenges of life but surely we want it done in a proper process.

Good luck to all running for the government seat, may you find it in your heart to assist your children and to the athletes gearing for the Palarong Pambansa the best of luck and God bless!
