Trail to success of a runner’s aspiration

TO OTHERS, she is a race director, runner, and a successful running event business woman, but to the people she loves the most, she is the best mother everybody could ask for. She sprints her race for Miranda Run Events, her business, towards success: Marites Melegrito Miranda.

Being the third and only girl among five siblings, Miranda finished the courses of Collegiate Secretarial at the Columban College, Olongapo City and AB in Mass Communication at the Wesleyan University-Philippines, Cabanatuan City. She used to handle training and business development while she was still employed.

Miranda revealed that her daughter Alex Dianne, an AB in Psychology graduate of University of the Philippines, and her family have always been her greatest inspirations of her life.

“My daughter and my family have always been a huge part of my life. I am dedicating all of my hard work and Miranda Run Events’ success to them,” Miranda said.

Miranda disclosed that her running was influenced by her youngest brother, Ronan, who is now a triathlete.

“When I tried running a 5k run for the first time in 2015, I had a hard time finishing it. But since I’ve enjoyed the experience, I tried a 6k, then a 10k run. I enjoyed them a lot so I tried the half marathon, a 21km distance. In 2017, I ran a full marathon distance of 42km and an ultra-marathon distance of 50km,” Miranda noted.

Miranda then realized that running events can also be enjoyed by many from all walks of life and can also promote health, so she began organizing fun runs in Zambales, Pampanga and Subic Bay in February 2016.

Miranda shared that her business stands for the legacy that she wants to share to the community.

“We initially thought our last name sounded and matched, like, Me-Run-Da. So we went ahead and used that. In a deeper context, we always want to have our legacy that is aligned to the community values - family and friendship. I think this is what we are all about, in every event that we create; we want to share the warmth and love, just like what our family is all about. After all, the running community is an extension of our family. No other brand or business name can highlight the family than our family name. My business also honors my Dad Victo and my family,” Miranda said.

“We, in Miranda Run Events, believe that to live a happy and meaningful life. Friends, family, physical-mental-spiritual health should be in consistent harmony,” the owner of Miranda Run Events added.

Miranda Run Events also offers race management to organizations which are planning to hold a fun run for their fund raising events.

Miranda has already partnered with some organizations such as BPO Runners’ AUX Run, The Heritage Café in City of San Fernando, Rotary Club of Subic, PAMET Olongapo Zambales, DTI Zambales, and JCI Zambales, and has handled race management for organizations such as the Asinan Elementary School Alumni Association, Columban College Alumni Association, St. Joseph College, and Jay Alexander Hopes.

Last 2016, Miranda reactivated the Olongapo Runners Club which was founded back in 1990. She is currently the point person for Basura Run in Olongapo City Chapter.

“Do things that are meaningful, things that enrich the heart and the soul. Engage in activities that build closer family ties and strengthen friendship,” Miranda said.

Next running schedules of Miranda Run Events are Run for a Happy Heart at Columban College, Olongapo City on February 24; Unity Run Unity Drive in Olongapo City on March 17; #Color Run Na at Tapinac Oval Track, Olongapo City on April 7; Foamy Run at Clark on May 18; Safari Run at Subic Bay on May 26; and Aux Run at Clark on November 25.

Miranda will join one of the most prestigious 50km distance running event for women, All Women’s Ultra Marathon at Cebu on March 9 and 10 this year.

“It is not how fast we cross the finish line, but it is how many times we braved to start and persevere towards finishing,” Miranda said.
